Description

Levenhuk Ra R80 ED Doublet OTA is a two-lens apochromatic refractor with extra-low dispersion optics. This optical tube is perfect for astrophotography, especially for extended objects, and quite well for visual observations. It features a wide field of view, high resolution, and excellent mechanics. Due to its compact size and light weight, this optical tube is irreplaceable during trips. In addition, the kit includes robust aluminum case for storage and transportation.

The telescope effectively reduces chromatic aberration, transmits images of high contrast and clarity. Fully multi-coated optics allows for observing even faint stars. You can easily observe deep sky as well as outer space. Due to the dual-speed focuser, the 2'' accessories can be installed. The focuser provides a very precise sharpness adjustment.

The OTA is made of anodized aluminum and features a high-quality blackening inside. The quick-release thumbscrew allows for installing this OTA on most modern mounts.

Please note: Mount, tripod, and optical accessories are not included.

Features:

  • Wide-field short-focus apochromatic refractor
  • Fully multi-coated optics made of ED glass
  • Dual-speed focuser enables for 2'' accessories installing
  • High contrast of the picture, minimum chromatic distortion
  • Perfect for visual observations and astrophotography

The kit includes:

  • Telescope optical tube
  • Cleaning wipe

Questions and Answers
John Larsen (2015.04.18)
I've owned my Questar 3 1/2" standard since 1984, but have decided to buy a decent refractor for mostly terrestrial observing from my home. I have a SLIK Pro tripod. What mount/s does this model come with, and if I decide to take the plunge, can you help me select a "package" to include the diagonal and 2-3 decent lenses? Thanks a lot for your consideration. John L.
Customer service:
Hi John,
Thanks for the query.
Unfortunately, the Levenhuk Ra R80 ED Doublet OTA is currently out of stock and we do not expect it back any time soon.
I'd recommend to check out Levenhuk Ra R80 ED Doublet Carbon OTA here at https://eu.levenhuk.com/catalogue/telescopes/levenhuk-ra-r80-ed-doublet-carbon-ota/
This OTA does not come with a mount, it has a quick-release thumbscrew tube-mount assembly system.
The highest practical power of this OTA is 160x.
To find out what eyepiece is required to achieve it, you need to divide its focal length by the highest practical power (that's 500 divided by 160 in case of Ra R80 ED Doublet OTA).
The answer is 3.13 mm and such eyepiece doesn't exist so you need to choose one of the closest, for example Levenhuk Ra 2" ED 35 mm Eyepiece.

I would like to know how much back focus the Ra R80 ED doublet has
Customer service:
Hello Robert,

Thank you for interest in Levenhuk products.

The back focus of our 80mm refractor is 135.3mm, the distance between the end surface to the fron surface of the T2 mount is 80.3mm.

The Levenhuk Ra R80 ED Doublet OTA is currently out of stock, but we have the same model with carbon fiber tube.

You can find it here online:
https://eu.levenhuk.com/catalogue/telescopes/levenhuk-ra-r80-ed-doublet-carbon-ota/

Looking forward to your reply.

Customer service:
Dear Bob, thank you for interest in Levenhuk products.

Glenn (2014.02.14)
Good day. I wanna buy a telescope- I've always dreamed of observing space beauties by myself! This idea just haunts my mind. I'd prefer one up to $800, which can help me to see planets and deep sky objects. I am thinking about astrophotography in the future (I have Nikon D3100). I've read some articles on the internet and now I know that the most important thing about telescopes is aperture. Please tell me, isn't 80 mm too small? Is it better to purchase a telescope with bigger objective lens? If this model is fine for me, then what accessories I might need?
Customer service:
Levenhuk Ra R80 ED Doublet OTA Telescope is very good for lunar and planetary observations. As compared to the similarly priced models, this model provides images of better quality. Eyepieces that come in useful for this telescope: Levenhuk Ra LER 3 mm Eyepiece https://eu.levenhuk.com/catalogue/accessories/telescope-accessories/telescope-eyepieces/levenhuk-ra-ler-3mm-1-25-eyepiece/ ; Levenhuk Ra LER 6 mm Eyepiece https://eu.levenhuk.com/catalogue/accessories/telescope-accessories/telescope-eyepieces/levenhuk-ra-ler-6mm-1-25-eyepiece/
If you want a more universal model, consider the Levenhuk SkyMatic 105 GT MAK telescope: https://eu.levenhuk.com/catalogue/telescopes/levenhuk-skymatic-105-gt-mak-telescope/ . It's suitable for both planetary and deep-sky observations.
