Overview of Levenhuk Energy PLUS Binoculars

New series from one of the most popular optics manufacturing companies – Levenhuk, which produces a large variety of high-quality optical instruments popular among customers all over the world.

Levenhuk Energy PLUS series looks quite impressive on the table!

Levenhuk Energy PLUS is a new generation of binoculars that combine the best qualities of popular Levenhuk Energy series with many new features. The main advantage of the new models is the high-quality roof prisms made of BaK-4 glass, which provides crisp, vivid images across the entire field of view.

Without more ado, I selected one of the models - Levenhuk Energy PLUS 10x50.

Levenhuk Energy PLUS Binoculars have all the necessary features: durable waterproof shell, twist-up eyecups, central focusing mechanism and diopter adjustment ring. There is nothing superfluous; it's a pleasure to hold them in the hands. Convenient case with a strap allows you to wear the tool on your shoulder.

Getting the binoculars out of the box, on the reverse side you can see detailed specifications of the product.

Thick blue-green anti-reflective coating covers all optical surfaces.

The body inside the binoculars is blackened to eliminate reflections of light. A special thin ring is used to tighten the objectives. I always loosen it. Overtightening the lenses negatively affects image quality.

The eyecups are rigid and have three locking positions. The most convenient position is the last one since it coincides with an eye relief. The series consists of eight models, basically the mechanics is identical. The protective caps are attached to the binoculars so they won't get lost.

On each side of the binoculars shell you can see special lugs for attaching a strap. The Energy PLUS 10x25 and Energy PLUS 8x25 models come without protective caps.

Binoculars are very light, designed for daytime viewing. The adjustment mechanism is the same for all models in the series.

And yet, why do we need binoculars? How to choose the right pair of binoculars that will meet our needs?

The binocular vision is very convenient, and allows studying observed objects in detail. The larger the magnification, the more details you can see; and the smaller it is, the larger the field of view will be. For nighttime observing the objective lens diameter should be larger. If you observe in daytime, the lens diamater should be smaller. That is because of the construction of the human eye: The pupil of the eye expands and contracts depending on the amount of light entering the eye.

Using binoculars we can observe the diversity of celestial objects, natural phenomena, animate and inanimate objects. We can enjoy viewing beautiful night clouds and aurorae,and stars in the Milky Way galaxy. Below you can see beautiful images (made with wide-angle objective) of noctilucent clouds and the Milky Way. Even these photos are not able to fully convey the diversity of color and beauty of the starry world. Of course, we won't be able to see the Milky Way as it appears on these pictures, since they are made with a 2 minute exposure using modern powerful cameras. But you can definitely enjoy stunning views of noctilucent clouds and aurorae! With this series of binoculars such astronomical objects as large open clusters, star fields, moonrises and moonsets will become available for you in all their glory.

Keeping in mind that with large field of view come more aberrations, I would recommend to those who value image quality most of all to choose binoculars with an exit pupil diameter of 4 mm. As an amateur astronomer I would pick 12x50 or 10x42 for myself, but as an avid angler I would prefer watching asp hunting with 8x25. Binoculars with a small increase yield close focus of 2 m, that's why they can be used for observing flowers and insects in macro mode.

Focusing and diopter adjustment

Your left eye vision might be different from that of your right eye and you might need to adjust the diopter setting on one of the eyepieces. To do this, just follow this simple procedure:

• Look through your binoculars at a distant object;
• Close your right eye and rotate the central focusing wheel until the view is focused;
• Now, close your left eye and observe with your right. Slowly rotate the diopter adjustment ring on the right eyepiece until the view is focused again.

Now that your binoculars are focused, you only need to use the central focusing wheel during observations.

Care and maintenance

Do not touch the optical surfaces with your fingers. You can use a soft napkin or a cleaning wipe, dipped in ether or absolute alcohol, to clean lenses. We recommend using special optics cleaning fluids from Levenhuk. Abrasive particles, such as sand, should not be wiped off lenses, but instead blown off or brushed away with a soft brush. Do not apply excessive pressure when adjusting focus, diopters or interpupillary distance. Protect your binoculars from sudden impacts and excessive mechanical force. This instrument may be used in high humidity (during rain, snowfall, etc.).

Store your binoculars in a dry, cool place away from hazardous acids and other chemicals, away from heaters, open fire and other sources of high temperatures. Do not use your binoculars for lengthy periods of time, or leave them unattended in direct sunlight.

We recommend keeping the silicate gel packet, included in the kit. During long storage, a thin white film may appear on the rubber armor. You can wipe it clean with a clean napkin. When bringing your binoculars inside from the cold - or during any drastic change of temperature, for that matter - put them in a case and allow them to adapt to the temperature of the environment. This prevents lenses from fogging.

Energy PLUS binoculars are very convenient to use. They are not bulky like most binoculars, but instead are quite compact. Each Energy PLUS model can be held comfortably in the hand.
