Description

Levenhuk Skyline PRO 127 MAK is the most powerful catadioptric telescope in the Skyline PRO series. A perfect blend of high-quality views and small dimensions of the tube is the main feature of the Maksutov-Cassegrain optical design. The long focal length and large aperture make this model perfect for planetary observations. With it you may observe the atmospheric flows of Jupiter, the gaps in rings of Saturn, the most prominent features of Mars’ surface, large and small craters and highlands features of the Moon, compact nebulae and star clusters. This model does not take up much space, so you can carry it easily and set it up wherever you find yourself. The mount accepts additional computerized drive systems and pole alignment finders, making it perfect for astrophotography.

The lenses and mirrors are fully multi-coated, which allows for maximum light gathering and increases their service life. The telescope tube is set up on an equatorial mount with slow-motion controls. You can also install dual-axis computerized drive system and a pole alignment finder (purchased separately) on your mount. It is equipped with setting circles which – after a quick adjustment – allow for locating objects by their celestial coordinates and tracking them with just a turn of an equatorial control. The adjustable height tripod has a practical accessory tray where you can store all your tools. Red Dot finder scope allows you to quickly navigate to the desired location.

The kit includes 10-millimeter (0.4-inch) and 25-millimeter (0.98-inch) eyepieces with 52-degree field of view of 150x and 60x magnification, respectively. The lenses are made of glass and are fully multi-coated. Focusing your telescope is as easy as adjusting the primary mirror with a move of the smooth-turning knob. You can use other eyepieces with this telescope, so that the assembly yields higher magnifications (keep in mind, however, that the highest practical power of this telescope is 250x).

I want to buy a decent telescope for my wife for Christmas. Neither one of us has any telescope experience. Is the Skyline Pro 127 MAK a good choice for a telescope that will not soon need to be "upgraded"? Can one learn on this scope, and then be well satisfied with this telescope for a long time? Though she will be an amateur astronomer, can this telescope be considered a professional instrument for an amateur? Need some guidance on this - John

Yes, this model is very powerful but it can be used by beginners & amateurs as it comes with Maksutov-Cassegrain design.
No extra alignment are needed. The telescope can be used both in the city (with high light pollution) and countryside. The model is very compact, so can be easily transported.
You will be able to observe planents of our Solar system as well as deep sky.

Oh! The description on your website isn't quite correct. The tripod is covered with 1mm aluminum layer (2mm would be much better in terms of reliability)

The telescope's great. The only fly in the ointment is its tripod. In my opinion it's too fragile, there are plastic parts that can easily be cracked if you overtighten the screws. So if you own such tripod I would recommend disassembling it and replacing all unreliable details.

What are the advantages of Levenhuk Skyline PRO 127 MAK Telescope over the Levenhuk Skyline 127 GT MAK Telescope. Why should I Choose one over the other?

The main difference between Levenhuk Skyline PRO 127 MAK telescope & Levenhuk Skymatic 127 MAK telescope is that the last one comes with the azimuth GoTo mount with a SynScan AZ hand controlle. The database of the Levenhuk Skymatic 127 MAK includes over 42000 objects.
The Skyline PRO 127 MAK comes with a German equatorial EQ3 mount.

I guess my question wasn't clear enough: I want to know what benefits will I get if I use an eyepiece with barrel diameter of two inches. I mean in terms of image quality of course. Maybe filed of view will be wider or I dunno... maybe the object itself will become bigger so I could see it better?

Field of view will increase, you will be able to use eyepieces and filters with 2" barrel diameter, which have better optical qualities, also it will be a lot easier for you to attach an SLR camera for prime focus shooting.

As I get it, there are no such telescopes with direct connection to PC and anyways I will have to buy additional equipment, for example a digital camera? I read your articles and have some additional questions.In your article you say that the best option will be a refractor telescope (for using as both telescope and spotting scope). quote: 'Also, you need to know that these telescopes can be additionally equipped with a diagonal prism and, in the correct orientation, will become a wonderful device for terrestrial observations. Refractors are best suited for urban observations since they successfully cope with urban flare.' But in your respond you strongly recommended Maksutov-Cassegrain optical design. So why is it better than refractor (for using as a spotting scope and telescope). and the last question. in your articles you say: 'Disadvantages of the catadioptric telescopes: long thermal stabilization, chromatic aberrations, coma.' what's the coma? and chromatic aberrations? what disadvantages are worse? these cons or the ones of refracting system? such as 'these telescopes are not able to provide correct color rendition, and you might need to install a hood for protection from dew condensation' and what is 'dew condensation'? could you please answer using a simple language? I'm not a professional, I don't know this terminology. Thank you in advance for your detailed answer.

Yes, to display photos on the PC monitor you will need a camera. A refracting telescope or refractor is a good choice for observations of Solar System planets and the Moon under urban illumination conditions. In you first question you wrote: requirements: good observations of stars (deep sky objects) and planets (Solar System), necessary condition is that it would be a great spotting scope for terrestrial observations. For these purposes we recommend the models with Maksutov-Cassegrain optical design - advanced and multipurpose optical design, that is perfect for observing planets and deep-sky objects in the city or in the countryside. The Catadioptric telescopes combine all the best features of refractors and reflectors. The image produced by these telescopes has no chromatic aberrations, which are common among reflectors.
Refractors also can produce the effect of chromatic aberrations. Chromatic aberrations consist in dispersion of light passing through the optical system. White light is decomposed into its constituent color beams, whereby the object's images in different colors do not coincide to the images’ space. Chromatic aberration lead to reduced image sharpness, and sometimes also to the appearance of color contours, bands, spots that the object doesn't have in reality. For astronomers, this effect can alter the true color of the star. Chromatic aberration can increase the effect of spherical aberration. Coma is an off-axis aberration, associated with the slope of light rays coming from the source to the optical axis of the telescope. The image of the star will be in the form of a drop or comet with a bright core and a large tail.

Yesterday I was observing Saturn almost all night using 100 and 6 mm eyepieces. Basically I saw it pretty well and even 1 of its satellites. What about deep-sky observing - everything's too sad here... also a plastic clip on the mount has burst. well... china quality. The telescope is not that bad actually, but not worth the money. I'd like to know, do you have a wide-field or another eyepiece that is better suited for deep-sky objects.

I wasn't lucky to purchase Levenhuk Ra 250N Dob, it's just too big for my car's trunk. So I bought Skyline PRO 127 MAK. I hadn't chance to observe properly (it was a very cloudy day). I saw Saturn but just for a few seconds. Frankly speaking, it was very small... like a pea. Is it the best result I can get with this model?

Under friendly atmospheric conditions you will be able to observe binary stars with a separation of 1'' and more, faint stars up to 13th stellar magnitude, large and small craters and highlands features of the Moon (3-4 km in size), you can try to see bright spots on Venus using a blue filter, the most prominent features of Mars' surface, the atmospheric flows of Jupiter, the gaps in rings of Saturn, many faint asteroids and comets, thousands of star clusters, nebulae and galaxies; while observing the brightest galaxies, you can see their spiral formations (M33, M51), large number of NGC objects (on many of them you can see some interesting details).
